Introduction to Research Methodology (04) : Analysis of Research Questions

a.      The First Thesis

§  Title     : Conversational Implicature on the Chew Talk Show.

§  Author : Nadya Alfi Fauziyah (2016)

§  Research question       :

1.      What types of conversational implicature are found on the conversation of The Chew talk show?

2.      What functions of conversational implicature are found on the conversation of The Chew talk show?

§  Analysis of research question  :

1.      This research question is related to particular theory that explains in the background of research. It happens because the author make the good questions to convince the reader about the field of the research. Then, the research questions have strong correlation with the theory and study that is as the base of this research. 

2.      The research question don’t fill the gaps in the centre of other research and theory. It happens because it uses the theory that has already existed in the field of pragmatics study. This research just have combination in the way the author chose the object of research. Based on this object, this research is coming as the new kind of research because the author take conversation in one talk show. It provides the commonly mistakes that is found in communication that will impact the misunderstanding among host, guests and audiences.

b.      The Second Thesis

§  Title     : Figurative Language Analysis in Five John Legend’s Song.

§  Author : Khadijah Arifah (2016)

§  Research question       :

1.      What kinds of figurative language are found in the five song lyric by John Legend?

2.      What are the meaning of the figurative language used in the five song lyric by John Legend’s?

§  Analysis of research question  :

1.      This research question is related to particular theory that explains in the background of research. It happens because the research question is relative to the theory as the base of this research. Then, it uses the clear question to draw where the research will go in the end of the analysis. 

2.      The research question don’t fill the gaps in the centre of other research and theory. It happens because the theme of this research uses the commonly topic in the field of figurative language. Furthermore, the researcher just give combination of the object research that uses five songs of one singer.

c.       The Third Thesis

§  Title     : A Morphological Analysis Focussing on Word Formation Processing in Android Smartphone’s Terms.

§  Author : Wira Puspita Yuswiningtyas (2014)

§  Research question       :

1.      What types of word formation processes are found in Android smartphone?

2.      How are word formation processes applied in Android smartphone?

§  Analysis of research questions            :

1.      This research question is related to particular theory that explains in the background of research. It provides on the question that strengthen the way this research go on. Then, it has clear relation with the theory that directly ask about the types and process of word formation in the object of research.

2.      The research question don’t fill the gaps in the centre of other research and theory. It happens because this research takes the theory that still excises. Then, the researcher takes the new object that is interesting but it still uses the commonly theory that is used by other people. 

d.      The Fourth Thesis

§  Title     : Conceptual Metaphor of the Movie “About Time”.

§  Author : Ujang Setiawan (2015)

§  Research question       :

1.      What kinds of conceptual metaphor are used in the movie “About Time”?

2.      What functions of conceptual metaphor are used in the movie “About Time”?

§  Analysis of research questions            :

1.      This research question is related to particular theory that explains in the background of research. The reason is that because the research question is relative to the theory as the base of this research. Then, it uses the clear question to draw where the research will go in the end of the analysis. 

2.      The research question don’t fill the gaps in the centre of other research and theory. The reason is that because it uses the theory that has already existed in the field of figurative language. This research just have combination in the way the author chose the object of research. Based on this object, this research is coming as the new kind of research because the author take the movie.

e.       The Fourth Thesis

§  Title     : Flouting Conversational Maxim Used by Main Characters in Lie to Me Movie.

§  Author : Faridah (2016).

§  Research question       :

1.      What types of maxims are flouted by main characters in Lie to Me movie?

2.      What are the reasons of flouting maxim showed by main characters in Lie to Me movie?

§  Analysis of research questions            :

1.      This research question is related to particular theory that explains in the background of research. It happens because it uses the relevance question word and it can accompany the reader to imagine how this research will go until the end. These research is very clear enough to explain about use the this theory.

2.      The research question don’t fill the gaps in the centre of other research and theory. The reason is that this research takes existing theory without having any combination in the way of research. Then, the researcher gives any combination in the object that take conversation in movie. It is interesting topic enough but this theory is commonly used to other researcher also.
