Introduction to Research Methodology (02) : Review of Related Literature

§  What is review of related literature?
Review literature is an actual process that should be done by the researcher while choosing the mothed of research that will be applied in their project such as qualitative, quantitative and mixed method approach or checking the topic of proposal design. Review literature is very important because it will help the researcher to determine that the topic of their research is worth studying or it needs to provide insight into way researcher can limit the scope to a needed area of inquiry. Besides, we can conclude that review literature is the process before going to the next step of research after doing select the topic of research, it means this process is locating and summarizing the study about the topic.
In this step of doing research, the researcher should identify the topic that should be studied. It is supported that review literature can share the result of other study previously that have close related or undertaken one with our topic research. In addition, review literature also provide the related study to the larger, ongoing dialogue in the literature, filling the gaps and extending prior studies. Then, it can provide the framework for establishing the important of the study as well as a benchmark for comparing the results with other findings.
§  Sources
We can do review literature in library, computer data base of literature and searching in internet. Those are the three places that can be gabbed easily but these will help us to build successful research that will be done.
§  How to review
There are several steps to do review literature in our research, those are:
1.      Begin by identifying key words. It means that we can review the research in litrary starting from the key word that will be used. It will identify the topic of research and preliminary reading.
2.      By using the key words in mind. It means that we can directly do searching about the studies that have correlation with our research.
3.      Initially, try to locate about 50 reports of research in articles or books related to research on your topic.
4.      Skim this initial group of articles or chapters, and duplicate those that are central to your topic.
5.      As you identify useful literature, begin designing a literature map.
6.      As you put together the literature map, also begin to draft summaries of the most relevant articles.
7.      After summarizing the literature, assemble the literature review, structuring it thematically or organizing it by important concepts.
